Rep. Carlos A. Gimenez, U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 28th district since 2021, posted a series of tweets on September 4, 2025, addressing concerns about alleged corruption and criminal ties involving political leaders in Honduras and Venezuela.
Later the same day at 16:57 UTC, he continued his criticism of the Honduran government with another post: “#SOSHonduras
Under the corrupt regime of President @XiomaraCastroZ, Honduras has become a cesspool of illicit activity & a staging ground for Venezuela’s terrorist-designated Cartel de los Soles.
In the upcoming presidential election, Dictator Nicolas Maduro, with a $50″
At 18:06 UTC on September 4, Gimenez also commented on threats against Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado and referenced U.S. officials’ responses: “#SOSVenezuela ¡Totalmente de acuerdo con mi amiga y hermana legislativa @MaElviraSalazar!
Las amenazas contra la libertadora María Corina Machado están siendo tomadas seriamente por la administración del Presidente Trump y nuestro Secretario de Estado Marco Rubio.
Espero”
Gimenez’s posts reflect ongoing tensions regarding allegations that members of Honduras’ ruling party have links to Venezuela’s so-called Cartel de los Soles—a group often accused by U.S. authorities of drug trafficking and other illicit activities. The tweets also reference claims that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro is involved in supporting these networks ahead of elections in Honduras.
