Carlos A. Gimenez, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 28th district since 2021, has used his social media platform to criticize political developments in Central America and express concerns about Chinese influence in the region.

On September 4, 2025, Gimenez posted on X: “Además de estar vinculado con el Cartel de los Soles, el lacayo @EnriqueReinaHN también le abre la puerta a China Comunista para establecer una base de influencia en el país.

El régimen Zelaya-Moncada es del mismo estirpe de las dictaduras en #Cuba y #Venezuela. https://t.co/9Zzw2h4wf7” In this post, he accused Enrique Reina of facilitating Communist China’s influence and drew parallels between the Honduran government and regimes in Cuba and Venezuela.

Later that day, on September 4, 2025, Gimenez continued his criticism with another statement: “Para todos los esbirros, lacayos, cómplices y familiares del desgobierno de @XiomaraCastroZ en #Honduras y la dictadura de los Ortega en #Nicaragua.

Si están con China Comunista, están en contra de los Estados Unidos y la democracia.

Jamás podrán volver a entrar a USA. https://t.co/6fd97gnvCh” He warned that those aligned with the governments of Xiomara Castro in Honduras or Daniel Ortega in Nicaragua—and who support Communist China—would not be allowed to enter the United States again.

Gimenez was born in Havana, Cuba in 1954 and currently resides in Miami. He succeeded Debbie Mucarsel-Powell as representative for Florida’s 28th district after serving previously on the Miami-Dade County Commission and in the Florida House of Representatives. He graduated from Barry University with a Bachelor of Public Administration degree.
