Rep. Carlos A. Gimenez, who represents Florida’s 28th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on April 17, 2026, addressing remembrance and advocacy related to historic tragedies and ongoing political issues.
In a post commemorating Holocaust Remembrance Day, Gimenez wrote: “This week we honor #YomHaShoah, remembering the 6 million Jews lost in the Holocaust & the courage of those who resisted. Thank you to the South Florida Committee of the Yad Vashem USA Foundation for reaffirming our promise: Never Again. We must always stand against https://t.co/gb5tS7CWqq” (April 17, 2026).
Later that day, he paid tribute to Cuban exiles who participated in the Bay of Pigs invasion: “Today, we honor the unwavering courage of the heroes of Brigade 2506. Their sacrifice in the pursuit of a free Cuba remains a powerful testament to the enduring human spirit and the fight for liberty. We will never forget their bravery or their mission. #Brigade2506 #CubaLibre https://t.co/YayisBAI1D” (April 17, 2026).
In another statement issued that evening regarding political prisoners in Cuba, Gimenez declared: “#SOSCuba ¡LIBERTAD PARA TODOS LOS PRESOS POLÍTICOS INJUSTAMENTE ENCARCELADOS EN CUBA! ¡NO HABRÁ PAZ, SIN JUSTICIA! “ (April 17, 2026).
Gimenez was born in Havana, Cuba in 1954 and has lived in Miami for much of his life. He has served as U.S. Representative since replacing Debbie Mucarsel-Powell in 2021 and previously held roles on the Miami-Dade County Commission and Florida House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011.
