Rep. Carlos A. Gimenez, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 28th district, has made several statements on his social media platform regarding recent international and domestic political issues.
On November 6, 2025, Gimenez voiced his support for Peru’s decision to sever diplomatic ties with Mexico. In his post he stated, “Desde el Congreso de USA, apoyo firmemente la decisión de la hermana República del Perú en romper relaciones diplomáticas con #México luego que el gobierno mexicano interviniera a favor de golpistas que pretenden socavar la democracia y el orden constitucional peruano. “ (November 6, 2025).
Later the same day, Gimenez highlighted his background as an immigrant from Cuba in another post. He wrote, “BREAKING —> I’m the only Member of Congress born in #Cuba. My family was forced from home after the Communist takeover — I recognize the extremists when I see them. Mamdani is a Marxist & we need to fight that much harder to stop this fringe Democrat experiment for America!” (November 6, 2025).
In a subsequent tweet addressed to local officials, Gimenez criticized Democratic leaders over federal funding disputes affecting Miami-Dade County: “Mayor, I recommend you contact those responsible for holding the federal government hostage: Democrat Party bosses — costing Miami-Dade millions of dollars in losses! They can be reached at: Senator Schumer: (202) 224-6542 Leader Jeffries: (202) 225-5936” (November 6, 2025).
Gimenez has served in Congress since replacing Debbie Mucarsel-Powell in 2021 and previously held positions in both the Florida House of Representatives and the Miami-Dade County Commission from 2005 to 2011. Born in Havana, Cuba in 1954 and now residing in Miami, he is known for his personal history as an immigrant whose family left Cuba following the communist revolution. He earned a Bachelor of Public Administration from Barry University in 1999.
