Rep. Carlos A. Gimenez, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 28th district and member of the Smithsonian Institution Board of Regents, announced via social media that all Smithsonian museums will reopen fully starting Monday, November 17.
In a post dated November 13, 2025, Gimenez stated: ” As a member of the Smithsonian Institution Board of Regents, I’m pleased to share that ALL Smithsonian museums will be fully open starting Monday, Nov. 17.
I hope you enjoy your visit to the worlds largest museum, education, and research institute!

Later that day, Gimenez criticized policies he described as “Communist,” drawing on his personal history as an immigrant from Cuba. On November 13, 2025, he posted: “This new wave of Communist democrats are attempting to expropriate your grocery store & price-fix Fidel Castro style.
Guess what? These deranged policies don’t work, have never worked, & never will work.
I would know, I was forced to flee #Cuba after the Communist takeover.”
That evening, he commented on international security issues involving Venezuela: “#SOSVenezuela The narcoterrorist Cartel de los Soles must be completely annihilated & destroyed.
President Trump is taking decisive action to protect Americans from this criminal gang.”
Gimenez has represented Florida’s 28th District in Congress since 2021 after succeeding Debbie Mucarsel-Powell and previously served in both the Florida House of Representatives and the Miami-Dade County Commission from 2005 to 2011. Born in Havana in 1954 and currently residing in Miami, Gimenez immigrated to the United States following the Cuban revolution. He earned a Bachelor of Public Administration from Barry University in 1999.
