Rep. Carlos A. Gimenez, who represents Florida’s 28th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on September 2, 2025, addressing actions against drug cartels and expressing support for political change in Latin America.

In a tweet at 19:33 UTC, Gimenez thanked national leaders for their recent measures targeting criminal organizations linked to Venezuela. He wrote, “Thank you @POTUS and @SecRubio for taking decisive action against the narco-terrorist networks operating out of Venezuela. Dictator Maduro & his cartel regime continue to poison our communities with deadly drugs. We must keep the pressure until we annihilate the cartels.”

Later that evening at 20:46 UTC, Gimenez published a message calling for freedom across several countries in the region. He stated, “La noche no será eterna. Libertad para Cuba Libertad para Venezuela Libertad para Nicaragua Libertad para Nuestra América God bless the USA! “

At 21:02 UTC on the same day, he confirmed an operation against alleged drug traffickers: “Desde el Congreso de Estados Unidos, puedo confirmar que hemos hundido un buque del Cartel de los Soles proveniente de #Venezuela que transportaba drogas ilícitas. Esto va viento en popa. Seguimos.”

Gimenez has served as a U.S. Congressman since 2021 after replacing Debbie Mucarsel-Powell and previously held roles in both the Florida House of Representatives and Miami-Dade County Commission from 2005 to 2011 (source: official biography). Born in Havana, Cuba in 1954 and currently residing in Miami, Gimenez is also an alumnus of Barry University.
