FLORIDA KEYS COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Donates

Moneygift

Florida Keys Community College issued the following announcement on Jan. 29.

Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay presented a check for $100,000 to The College of the Florida Keys President Dr. Jonathan Gueverra on January 9. The donation will go toward constructing CFK’s new Upper Keys Center in Key Largo, scheduled to open in August 2021. The 38,000 square foot building will include facilities dedicated to training future and current law enforcement and corrections officers through the College’s Institute for Public Safety.

“The College of the Florida Keys has a long and great relationship with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. In fact Sheriff Rick Ramsay graduated from a Basic Law Enforcement Academy at then FKCC in 1987,” said Dr. Gueverra. “As a supporter of our community and education, Sheriff Ramsay is leading by example by contributing $100,000 to the Upper Keys Center. He is doing what I hope many others will do to assure the continuance of quality education programs in Monroe County.”

“I am excited today to announce that we are able to use these non-taxpayer funds to support extended education for all our residents,” said Sheriff Rick Ramsay. “The new campus in the Upper Keys will also enhance our law enforcement training capabilities, not only for Monroe County, but for Miami-Dade as well — more evidence that my strong belief in community partnerships between police, residents, businesses, churches and schools means lower crime rates and a higher standard of living for every person who calls this community home.”
