Monroe County School District recently issued the following announcement.
MCSD staff and several high school football teams were motivated by Super Bowl Champion, author, and reading advocate Malcolm Mitchell. His message of the importance of
reading and his journey to becoming an avid reader inspired the audience. The former college and NFL standout discussed how lessons learned in football transfer to life. In
sharing his story, he talked about how reading wasn’t important to him until he was in college at the University of Georgia when he realized his skills needed to be strengthened, so
he joined a book club and focused on expanding his reading opportunities. Today he is an advocate for literacy and his children’s books, The Magicians Hat and My Favorite Book
in the Whole Wide World, are beautiful and he signed the books and spoke to all that stayed to see him. We are grateful to Malcolm Mitchell for being here to kick off our school
year in such a positive way. All social distancing and safety protocols were followed.
