Monroe County School District recently issued the following announcement.
Social and emotional well-being for our students and staff members is a priority again this school year. MCSD continues to work hard to meet the demands of today’s students
through the work of our school counselors, school social workers, and collaborative partnerships with outside community agencies. We have added new staff this year in the form
of school social workers, para-professionals, graduation coaches, guidance administrative assistants, and nurse technicians. This will allow enhanced mental health support
creating the increased ability for our school-based mental health providers to see more students than ever before individually, in the classroom, and in groups. We have a robust
social and emotional core curriculum, and supporting programs to address social isolation and violence prevention. We are also adding additional curriculum in the area of suicide
prevention, expanding social-emotional learning to after-school and exceptional education programs, and bringing in Classroom Champions that includes Olympic athletes as part
of the social-emotional and mentorship program. The collective work of all of these stakeholders as well as teachers and staff in our schools will positively impact the social and
emotional growth our students will gain while we also academically meet the diverse needs of our students this school year.
