College of the Florida keys issued the following announcement on Sept. 9.
The College of the Florida Keys’ invites the community to celebrate the birthday of the United States Government at its annual Constitution Day event on Thursday, September 16 at 11:00 a.m. via Zoom. Constitution Day commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787, thus laying the foundation of our government, rights, and freedoms. This year's event will feature FIU Professor of Law Elizabeth Foley who will present “The Constitution’s Separation of Powers: A Ship that Will Right Itself?” She will explore the responsibilities and authority of the various levels of government. Information to join the virtual event, as well as Constitution games and resources, can be found on the College’s website at cfk.edu/events.
Coordinated by CFK Business Law instructor and attorney Stephen Muffler, the College’s Constitution Day activities aim to educate the public on their rights under the Constitutional Amendments and encourage habits of being a good citizen. “The U.S. Constitution is the blueprint of our country, market system, and free society,” said Muffler. “It acts as the common denominator for all Americans, regardless of our differences.”

Attendees will also learn how to register to vote with the help of representatives from the League of Women Voters. Free pocket Constitutions, donated by the City of Key West’s Citizens Review Board, will be available in the libraries at the College’s Key West Campus and Upper Keys Center.
