Monroe County School District recently issued the following announcement.
Superintendent Theresa Axford is pleased to announce that Project Lead the Way Launch will now be fully implemented in the elementary grades at Key Largo School and Horace
O’Bryant School thanks to a generous donation from the Monroe County Education Foundation. The donation will provide for new teacher training for 30 teachers, lead teacher
training, materials and student materials, and supplies for two years.
Project Lead the Way provides transformative experiences for students and teachers by creating an engaging and hands-on classroom environment and features multiple STEM
activities. The work empowers students to develop knowledge and skills that are in demand in professions today and provides teachers with the training and resources needed for
this real-world learning in the area of STEM – science, technology, engineering, and math.
MCSD has collaborated with Project Lead the Way since 2016 when our first teachers were trained. Since then we have expanded training and courses to every school in the
district. Currently, MCSD has at least one STEM-trained teacher in every elementary school with access to 47 different Project Lead the Way Launch lessons that deliver cross-
curricular experiences for students Pre-K through 5th grade. MCSD is also committed to Project Lead the Way classes in middle and high schools, with two middle schools offering
Project Lead the Way Gateway programs and Project Lead the Way in two high schools offering Engineering and Biomedical Science programs that lead to industry-recognized
certifications for students.
