Monroe County School District recently issued the following announcement.
Monroe County School District Superintendent Theresa Axford has named Kevin Walden to be the next assistant principal at Sugarloaf School. Leslie Holmes, the current assistant principal, has been selected as the new Director of Adult Education.
“Kevin Walden began as a substitute teacher at Sugarloaf School and it was clear from the very beginning that he had potential to become a great teacher and a great leader, both of which he has fulfilled,” stated Axford. “I am very proud of his work over the years and pleased that he will continue to share his expertise with students and teachers in this new role of Assistant Principal.”
Walden has been a teacher at Sugarloaf School since 1999, serving as an elementary and middle school science teacher before moving to Teacher on Special Assignment with an array of duties, most recently as the STEM elective teacher. He has a strong background in science and technology and has served in leadership roles including AVID Site Coordinator, Summer Program Site Coordinator, and reading interventionist. Twenty-three years of being part of the Sugarloaf School community provides him with knowledge of the students, staff, and parents, all strengths he will bring to his new role. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences from Hampton University and an Educational Leadership Degree from Grand Canyon University.
Brett Unke, Sugarloaf School Principal, stated, “ Mr. Walden’s instructional technology background and his deep Sugarloaf roots will provide a solid foundation as a new administrator. The school is excited to welcome him in this new position.”
“I am honored and grateful for the opportunity,” stated Walden. “I love this school and am excited to work with Mr. Unke and the entire Shark family to continue our mission to Build Better Together.”
