Lady Tigers Hold Off Clark Atlanta In Road Win

Edward Waters rode the dominant play of forward Khadija Smith en route to a 60-57 road victory over Clark Atlanta in an SIAC matchup at L. S. Epps Gymnasium on Saturday Afternoon. For the Lady Tigers, it was their second consecutive victory and third in the last four games.

Edward Waters (8-8, 4-6 SIAC) twice led by as many as five points over Clark Atlanta (7-8,  6-4 SIAC) in the first quarter. CAU ultimately came to within three of the lead at 14-11 through one quarter of play. The second quarter was another nip and tuck affair. Edward Waters got up as many as 10 points in the quarter, with Clark Atlanta coming through with another run to close the deficit to six at 27-21 at the half.

The Lady Tigers built their lead up to seven in the third, before the Lady Panthers got their offense going once again, taking the lead at 41-38 with 4:50 remaining. Edward Waters closed the quarter on a 9-6 run to tie the matchup at 47-47 going into the fourth quarter. Both squads traded shots at the start of the quarter, each having time with the lead. EWU began to assert themselves late in the quarter, leading by as many as four after Khadija Smith's layup, giving the Lady Tigers a 54-50 lead with 2:47 remaining. EWU was able to hold off the Lady Panthers down the stretch to earn a three point home win over CAU.

Edward Waters outshot Clark Atlanta, 46% to 33.9% from the floor, including a 33% to 12% edge from the bonus sphere. Khadija Smith led all scorers with a game high 19 points and six rebounds, while Jourdan Avery finished with 13 points, four boards, and six assists for the Lady Tigers.

Edward Waters will be back in action on Saturday, January 21st at 2:00pm for a road matchup against Savannah State.
