Village of Islamorada recently issued the following announcement.
The Matecumbe Historical Trust will hold their annual Labor Day service in memory of the civilians and war veterans who lost their lives in the Hurricane of September 2, 1935. The service will be recorded and shared virtually due to the new outbreak of Covid-19 in our area.
To view the service on Monday, September 6, visit us on Matecumbe Historical Trust Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Matecumbehistoricaltrust/ or Tony Hammon on Facebook and on islandcommunitychurch.org. The service will include a presentation by Pastor Emeritus Tony Hammon.
Guest speakers will include Islamorada Village of Islands, councilman Henry Rosenthal, Bob Johnson of the American Legion Post 145 and Sue Miller. Service will include the invocation, presentation of colors by the Islamorada Village of Islands Fire Rescue and Boy Scout Troop 912, The National Anthem and America the Beautiful sung by Leah Sutter, the placing of the memorial wreath, taps and the benediction by Pastor Bob Pavey of the United Matecumbe Methodist Church. The wreath is sponsored by Centennial Bank.
