The Florida Keys Council of the Arts and United Way of Collier and the Keys presented the Key West Police Department tickets to the Tropic Cinema, thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys. They have been distributing tickets to various Keys arts events with the goal of increasing access to Keys arts opportunities for working residents who may not otherwise have the opportunity to attend these cultural activities. The tickets can be anything from films to concerts, theater, symphony, or ballet performances.
“By the time working families finish a shift," said Leah Stockton, President and CEO of United Way of Collier and the Keys, "and pay for a meal and babysitter, a night on the town may be financially out of reach."
“This is a wonderful way to reach new audiences with the arts,” said Council of the Arts Executive Director Liz Young.
Through the grant, the non-profits can give the tickets to leadership in various organizations and invite them to distribute them to staff, clients, students/families, and whomever they feel would not normally be able to attend events of this nature.
"We hope to inspire a deep interest in the arts as well as provide a fun afternoon or evening out for the working residents of the Keys," said Stockton.
