Commissioner Raschein Appointed Policy Leader of two Florida Association of Counties Committees

Monroe county

County of Monroe issued the following announcement on Nov. 4.

Monroe County Commissioner Holly Merrill Raschein received a mid-year appointment as a Policy Leader on the Presidential Select Committee on Preemption and on the Water and Environmental Sustainability (WES) Committee.

The Presidential Select Committee on Preemption is a long-range strategic effort to address the issue of preemption of local home rule authority.  The committee will study how preemption issues have occurred both in Florida and nationally to understand the trends, causes, and proponents of state preemption of local authority to create sustainable solutions or alternatives to state preemption.

The WES Committee develops and recommends an annual statewide legislative platform for counties based on the issue areas under their jurisdiction. The committee considers all state and federal water and environmental policy issues, including water quality, quantity and infrastructure, funding issues, interstate issues, waste and pollution, utilities and energy, and resiliency. She joins Monroe County Mayor Michelle Coldiron, who is vice chairwoman of the WES Committee.
