City of Key West recently issued the following announcement.
The City of Key West is proud to celebrate the completion of what has been called Phase 1b of the Truman Waterfront park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning. The
community turned out to watch the ribbon cut on the Matthew L. Gilleran sports field. The celebration included soccer games and food and beverage for the kids.
In addition to celebrating the new sports field, the ceremony highlighted the other amenities of this last piece of the gem which is the Truman Waterfront Park. Already, the
community is enjoying the use of the new dog park featuring a playground/training area with ramps and jumps, and tubes. The Kermit “Shine” Building – names for Key West’s own
prizefighter and sparring partner of Ernest Hemmingway – features a concession stand, restrooms, and storage for equipment used to maintain the park. In addition, the building
sports brand new horse stables for the Key West Police Mounted Unit.
