County of Monroe recently issued the following announcement.
Monroe County extended the registration deadline for the Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery Voluntary Home Buyout Program until further notice. Property
owners who qualify for the program will receive market value for their property.
After Hurricane Irma, the State of Florida created the voluntary program to encourage risk reduction by purchasing residential property in high flood-risk areas. Priority properties
are in low- and moderate-income areas. Property owners who wish to sell their homes are encouraged to participate, especially if they were damaged by Hurricane Irma and still
need repair. Once acquired, existing structures on the property will be demolished, and the property will be used for permanent open space, passive recreation, or to restore
natural floodplain functions indefinitely.
Applicants must meet eligibility requirements. For more information to fill out the Monroe County Voluntary Home Buyout Interest Form, visit www.monroecounty-fl.gov/homebuyout.
