Monroe County Sheriff's Office recently issued the following announcement.
A 57-year-old Opa-locka, Florida man was arrested Friday for possessing 37 over-the-limit and 37 undersized mangrove snapper and other fish violations.
Julio Cesar Linares was also charged for possessing one undersized red grouper and one undersized yellowtail snapper.
Marine Deputy Willie Guerra was patrolling on Long Key Bridge when he observed Linares and another man walking from the south end of the bridge with fishing rods and a cooler.
The men initially stated they did not catch any fish, but an inspection of the cooler yielded 41 mangrove snapper — with only four being legal size — one undersized red grouper and one undersized yellowtail snapper.
Linares stated all the fish were his.
The other man was not arrested.
Linares was taken to jail.
