City of Marathon recently issued the following announcement.
The City of Marathon will be making major roof repairs of the Marathon Community Park amphitheater starting this week. Public Utilities Director Carlos Solis said the $150,000 project will take about a month to complete.
“We’re not actually buying new canvas; that’s still in good shape,” said Solis. “But some of the structural metal components have rusted – like cables and hardware – and those need to be replaced.”
The canvas will be removed, and then re-installed, by the same company who performed the service in 2005. (Pictured is an employee of BirdAir pressure washing the canvas.) Other contractors will perform the maintenance and the painting of the structure.
The project was paid for with a grant from the Tourist Development Council bed tax collections in the Middle Keys district.
