Family disturbance turns deadly

Today at 4:55 a.m., Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Pacific Avenue in Tavernier regarding a disturbance involving a stabbing. Deputies arrived to find 54–year-old Thomas Charles Dotschay dead of an apparent stabbing. Deputies also located 53-year-old Carola Dotschay who also appeared to have a stab wound. After securing the scene medical personnel were brought in and provided medical attention to the victim who was airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center in Miami via Trauma Star in critical condition.

Also at the home was the couple’s 21-year-old son Christopher Joe Dotschay who was a witness to the incident. He was not injured and is cooperating with investigators. It is believed at this time that the father fatally stabbed himself and stabbed his wife as she attempted to stop him.

The female was last listed in stable condition and is expected to live.

“This case remains under investigation and more information will be released as it becomes available,” said Sheriff Rick Ramsay. “It does not appear that any other individuals were involved in this incident.”
