Rep. Carlos A. Gimenez, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida's 28th district, has been vocal about issues concerning Cuba in recent social media posts. Born in Havana, Cuba, Gimenez moved to the United States and has served in various political roles since 2005.
On March 10, 2025, Rep. Gimenez shared his return to Cuba after 64 years via a tweet: "En @dlasamericas_ —> Congresista Carlos Giménez regresa a Cuba, tras 64 años." He visited the Guantánamo Bay base to evaluate facilities for undocumented immigrants with criminal records and meet with authorities.
The following day, on March 11, he demanded the release of political prisoners in Cuba through another tweet: "#SOSCuba ¡EXIGIMOS LA LIBERACIÓN INMEDIATA DE TODOS LOS PRESOS POLÍTICOS INJUSTAMENTE ENCARCELADOS DENTRO DE CUBA!"
Later that day, Rep. Gimenez condemned the Cuban government for its treatment of dissenters: "#SOSCuba The murderous dictatorship in #Cuba has thousands of men, women, & children jailed in maximum security prisons and concentration camps." He criticized the regime for imprisoning individuals for activities such as posting on social media and protesting.
