City of Marathon issued the following announcement on Feb. 20.
Join us for a Public Sea Turtle Release Tuesday, February 25th at Sombrero Beach in Marathon. Bring your family and friends to help us cheer for Nicky! Nicky, a beautiful juvenile green sea turtle was rescued in November of last year where he was found floating, unable to dive under Sunset Pier in Key West. Nicky was treated at the Turtle Hospital for emaciation and an intestinal protozoa. Treatment included antiparasitic medication, broad spectrum antibiotics, IV fluid treatment, oral tube feeding, and a healthy diet of squid and fish. Nicky is healthy and ready to return to the sea! Nicky will arrive in the turtle ambulance at 9:30 a.m., with release promptly at 10:00 a.m. See you there!
