Transportation Coordinator Honored

5

City of Key West issued the following announcement on July 21.

During Tuesday’s City Commission meeting, Engineering Director Steve McAlearney took the opportunity to thank the City’s outgoing multi-modal transportation coordinator Tim Staub.

Although he’s only been on the job two and a half years, McAlearney noted that he really created the position, creating a master plan, working on changing ordinances, all with the goal of making the island safer for bicycles and pedestrians.

“He was all-in from the get go,” said McAlearney. “He sold his car before he came here, and made it work. He has had an outsized influence while he was here.”

McAlearney said he is leaving for a good reason: to pursue a graduate degree in urban planning and policy at Rutgers. Hopefully, says McAlearney, the City can get him back here after to serve in the planning department.
