Rep. Carlos A. Gimenez, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 28th district, shared a series of tweets expressing his views on Colombia's political situation and its implications for U.S.-Colombian relations. Gimenez has served in Congress since 2021, following his previous roles in the Florida House of Representatives and the Miami-Dade County Commission.

On January 26, 2025, Rep. Gimenez posted a tweet criticizing Colombian President Gustavo Petro, describing him as a "socialist guerrilla" who has "destroyed the strong alliance between the United States & Colombia." He stated that Petro's rhetoric is ineffective and emphasized support for Donald J. Trump by declaring him as the "new sheriff in town." The full text of the tweet can be found here.

Later that day, Gimenez tweeted in Spanish about President Petro, referring to him as "Aureliano," accusing him of undermining the alliance built by former Colombian President Álvaro Uribe Vélez with George W. Bush. He described Petro as an embarrassment to Colombians and claimed he lacks respect in Washington. The complete text is available here.

In another tweet on January 26, 2025, Gimenez shared an article link titled “Wake up and smell the coffee”: Congress backs Trump on Colombian pressure campaign," highlighting congressional support for Trump's approach toward Colombia. The original tweet can be accessed here.
